I started my pen turning in North Carolina. I moved to Idaho last summer and then in December moved across the city to a home we bought. I was meeting my neighbors and our next door neighbor said...."My husband turns pens and looks at them on the internet." We finally met up and came to find out he is LeatherMan. It sure is a small world. My shop is still a mess but someday I will get it up and running so he and I can swap ideas.

Does anyone else live that close to each other?

Golly, imagine that!! Of the 25 people that live in Idaho....running into one of the 20 people that turn pens![:D]

For all you UK guys, Idaho has 1.5 million people and has approximately the same land area as the UK (which has nearly 61 million).[;)]

BTW- I am just joking as some of my family live in the UK. I have visited them and found the UK to be a really neat place. I spent several days in Scotland just cruising around and it was absolutely gorgeous!!

Add- Actually Shane, OldSmokey is up in Nampa too. There are a few of is in the South/Central part and then a bunch on the South-East part of the state (the co-founder of the IAP is there).

Not quite as close but Dubdrvrkev and I live about 50 yards away from each other. It s nice having a fellow turner next door, you know where to go to borrow tools.

That is amazing, Shane! Good for you! There are a couple of us around. Penturners need to stick together! [8D]

Scott.

[:D]Hey Bill, if you spent several days just cruising around, did you actually get anywhere or did you get stuck behind a tractor too![:D][}:)][)] Just joking matey, I love Scotland too.[8D]

Cool story...When I lived in Saudi, many of the
Palestinians were looking for a homeland. Most of the
expats had offered them Idaho, but they refused...
OK, just kidding[:)]

I live about 8 minutes from doghouse, and about 30-45 minutes from probably 5 other members. I've only hung out with John, but someday hope to expand my social circle.

It looks like Boise is getting a lot of quality turners here. I didn't know that Leatherman or Shane are from Boise. I knew Scott and Bill are from this area. I wanted to meet Scott when he taught a pen turning class at Woodcrafters, but I had to go to San Francisco to my daughters house for some daddy fix-it's. Tom, this is a great place here and I can take you to a place where we can get lots of wood.
Small world stories, I grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from high school in 1964. My next older brother, Rex moved to So. Cal. (LA area) about 1957. After high school I enlisted in the Navy. I went to boot camp in San Diego. In Sept, while still in boot camp, my brother Rex got married to Kathy. I was unable to go to the wedding because I was still a recruit and could leave the San Diego area. My mother, 4 brothers and two sisters were at Rex and Kathy's wedding.
After I got out of the Navy I moved to the LA area near where Rex and Kathy lived. I met a girl, Judi. Almost a year later Judi and I got engaged. I decided she should meet Rex and Kathy. We went over to thier home for dinner. I knocked on the door and Rex answered it. I said, "Hi Rex, this is my" and from across the room Kathy yelled, "Judi and Judi yelled, Kathy". Rex and I just gave each other a dumb look.
It turned out Judi and Kathy were good friends from Jr. High and High School. Judi was at Rex and Kathy's wedding and met my whole family. After Rex and Kathy were married they lost touch with each other until I came along.
