I could not find the thread that started maybe a year a two ago. Amazing how time flies. But I have been waiting for this Italian manuafacture to make some color ebonite rods. Well they finally got around to it on their time. The color from the picture (which was a lousy picture) shows more of a redish/brown with black swirl color.
His price per 20mm rod was 71.00 [:0] not including any other charges, shipping, duty, etc. So this is not a viable option. I just wanted to report back as I said I would whenever I recieved their answer.

The price is about 100% increase over what I thought the cost should be. But I have found this pricing is consistant with things being manufactured in Italy. Example, I purchased a Pardini pistol in 1997 for about 1,100.00 last year the same pistol was 1400 this year it went to 1600 then a whopping 1900.00 [:0]

I know the devalued dollar can account for about 20% increase, but they are getting ahead of the curve over there. A couple of things come to mind for the dramatic increase......

The mob has increased their duty [B)]
The church needs more money [:0]
They're putting something on their pasta besides cheese :D

Happy 4th :)

Anthony, very astute observations coming from you. Of the three(3), I voted for the cheese(y)[)] answer. It must be so, since parmiggiano cheese on spaghetti does get expensive. :D

Anthony,

The one I believe is the attitude "All Americans are rich, let's take as much as we can get!"

Sometimes a simple, "You're outa my league!!" changes the pricing.

Ed, after I blasted him, the pricing did change. But to get the pricing of 40.00 per rod, it would be 1,000 pcs or a total of $40,000
They can keep it. To many other good materials out there for less.

Tell me about it, I am doing a similar transaction with my supplier.

Suddenly, I need to buy 200 of each color to maintain a reasonable price.

A simple "no" works. When we have to SELL the products near cost, there is NO motivation to STOCK.

Our friends across the pond seem to forget American companies have become world leaders on PROFIT. What we are doing in our hobbies is NOT profit-driven, but it also does NOT allow us to "take a beating".

If the dollar recovers, your price may come down as will, I hope, my supplies.

I would blame it on the cost of the pasta itself. I saw a news blurb earlier this year that the cost of pasta has increased dramatically for them due to the rising cost of wheat.
