Several of you may remember me as the guy who was retiring the 11th of Dec. The company I work for has purchased a Penn State start up kit - the good one and will be giving it to me this Friday. Well I went and spent way to much money - over $1k- this evening ordering all kinds of pen kits, finishing stuff, etc. I was warned about the addiction of this pen turning and I haven't even turned a pen yet and going over the deep end, love it. I am worse than my wife in Wal-Mart now.
Is there a place for this addiction? Maybe when all this stuff shows up and I actually start turning and the spending may slow down. Well the economy should have had a small shot in the arm this evening.

I have one friend in Jefferson City who now wants me to adopt him. Can't afford another son!!! Friends YES!!!!!
Just had to get this off my chest. I have been on this web site every day since I have found it loading up on info and making a few friends. There are some of you out there who should be respected around the world for your workmanship, just outstanding.

Only place for the addiction is your local bar and that just leads to another. Or you could just go back to work and send me all your stuff and you won't have to worry about not being able to recover from the addiction.

Gary,
Thanks for the great offer, but I think I should at least find out if I can turn a pen or something before I give all this stuff away. May have to get rid of some of my flat work stuff to make room for the pen stuff.

Hey , a table saw makes a good lathe stand with a piece of MDF , a radial arm saw makes a great table for storing blanks and your pressure pot and casting supplies (big radial arm saw table) , router table makes a great place for mixing your casting supplies .
See you don't have to sell your flat work tools , just reallocate the space .

I was told "the least expensive thing you buy is the lathe" boy was that an understatement. The addiction is there to stay. More blanks begets more kits. More kits begits more tools. Like the energizer bunny it keeps going and going and going and going.........
Hope you get started soon, can't wait to see your work.

Too bad there isn't a 12 step program or is that the one in which you buy a new kit for 6 days then turn one kit a day for the next 6. I tried that one but now I have about 80 feet of exotic wood and a big old bunch of parts. I forgot when to stop!!

I still have about 300 lbs of african blackwood. Bought the lot on auction for next to nothing, and picked it up while I was still driving truck. Think I only paid 50 cents per 1.5 x 1.5 x 8 inch piece.

Actually.....if you really think about it........1K is pretty tame in the scale of "big boys toys". So I can't really drum up too much sympathy for your "psycosomatic" condition..

Sooo, if you really want to prove your addiction is REAL go to the Dayacom site and buy AT LEAST 100 of these.

I might even buy one or two from ya...if the price is right.
