Edward; You may want to look for a wood turning group in your area. American Association of Woodturners has chapters world wide. They have a "virtual chapter" for penturners. You can search for a local group
It appears the Missouri Chapter is pretty much dead on here. The Missouri Pen Turners on Facebook is much more active. As far as a local turning club, there are 4-5 in Missouri. Depending on where you live, there may be one for you.
I just noticed you're in Springfield. The local turning club monthly meeting is this Saturday. Check out www.woodturnersofswmo.com for info. Also, lots of great local resources for Penturners. Www.woodnwhimsies.com is in Monett and www.classicnib.com is in Aurora. Let me know if I can be of any help. I'm in Republic.
The Southwest Missouri local chapter has disbanded. I coordinated that until I moved to Arkansas. The local wood turning chapter in Springfield would be your best bet.
