to have an allergic reaction to Corian?

I just received a huge box of Corian from Alice. And now my head feels like it weighs a hundred pounds and nose is all stuffed up and my eyes are killing me and it is hard to breath. I have gotten Corian before and made stuff with it and don't remember a reaction like that. Just wondering. I don't think I was around anything else today that would cause a reaction.

What did it taste like? Kidding!

I personally wouldn't think so, but take care of your self. Get some rest, if that is possible!

I am not sure I have never worked with corian before. How about you send me the corian and I will see if I have a similar reaction. All joking aside I hope you get to feeling better.

Yes! Two of the main ingredients in Corian are methyl methacrylate and acryl butylate. Exposure to vapors and/or dust can irritate eyes, skin, nose and throat. Lots of fresh air should help resolve the issues, otherwise consult a physician.

Thanks Lou! This is good to know!

I have had a couple of my workers through the years ( on my house building projects) have a reaction to it but only when it was being machined and thus causing dust and fumes. If you were not machining it when you had the reaction I am not sure it off gases enough to cause such a quick response, especially of you have worked with it in the past and not had a problem.

I haven't started working with it yet. Just opened the box and laid it all out to see what it all was. Then a little later all of the above hit me. I left for my sisters birthday party and it cleared up. I came home and started messing with organizing it and it hit me again. I moved most of it to the shop and it is clearing up again. It's just weird, never had that happen before that I can remember.

Not sure, could just be the living room, lol. I'm wondering if there is a chance of a reaction between the Corian and the coating that was on the wood blanks included in the box? Or maybe it was something that I turned earlier in the week and it just now finding its way to me? Either way it sucks and I hope it clears up by the morning. Reminds me of the allergies I used to have as a kid without all of the sneezing a thousand times.

Methyl methacrylate is known to cause respiratory impairment in some people. Guess you're one of them.

My latex allergy hit me quick . . . like that . . . respiratory problems.

I would hope it wasn't pets, lol. I have a small zoo here so probably not pets. And no one else has complained of a reaction so it might just be something special to me.

And this in no way implies that Alice has done anything wrong! I was blown away by how much was in the box and almost threw my back out carrying it from the mail box. My wife was amazed that it all fit in one box. Between Alice and Victor I have enough pendant blanks to make a lot of customers happy if I could just sell one first lol.

Does this mean I can't turn any more of it? If so, I am going to cry. I still have some to turn for the troops. (Haven't forgot, Neil) I will try to turn some in a few days and see what reaction I have to it.

The vapors could have accumulated in the sealed box. If this is in fact the case and you are allergic, you may want to store them in a well ventilated area and use good ventilation when you're working with it.
