Anyone have one? What do you think of it. Is the 8gb model enough or do you really need the 16 or 32.
Thanks

Depends on 1) what you want to do with it and 2) how much music you have/desire....

Its a GREAT device and if I weren't about to get an iphone, I'd have one.

Tons of good apps and a great websurfing device whenever you have wi-fi available.

Maybe the sexiest little thing in the world. If we had AT&T reception out here in the Third World, I'd have an iPhone, but since we only have Verizon, I settle for the Touch. I have about 4 days of music on my iPod, so I want nothing less than the 30gig.

If you're a music geek and must have your entire collection available at all times, get the biggest you can.

If you just do a few cd's, some podcasts, and maybe audio books, then the small one will be fine.

In my opinion its one of the best consumer products around today. If you also need a mobile phone and AT&T is available, the iPhone is a better option because you only have to carry one device.

There are so many cool applications for either of these devices and they are available at very reasonable prices.

As an owner of at least 7 ipods (lost count) including a touch and an iPhone, go bigger with memory. Better to have more than you need. Great piece of technology.

I have an iPod Touch since I refuse to deal with AT&T. I have the 8GB model, it has about 1,000 songs on it, and there's still almost 1.5GB free. Swapping songs out is painless, since I use iTunes for all my music needs. I also use it for remote access to my email, a couple games, reading the news, and remote administration of my servers. Yep, there's an app for that.

The iPhone is nice, and if Verizon carried it, I'd toy with buying one - provided I could afford it and Verizon didn't cripple some of the functionality in the interest of using their proprietary VCast service.

I have the 8gig Touch and love it. Of course bigger is always better. On the 8gig I can load up about 500 tunes and about 6 or 10 videos, which seems fine for my travels. Depending on compression and length of media, your results may vary. I also have a 16gig iPhone. As far as MP3 players go, it's just another very good MP3 player. What I really enjoy is loading it up with movies when I travel. Plug in my ER6i isolation earbuds and long flights don't seem so long anymore, and Safari is a fantastic mobile browser. I couldn't toss my Windows mobile device fast enough.

Now with all that being said, it does have it's short comings. Mainly with the calendaring and phone options - if you have the iPhone. It's a typical Apple product in which you are limited in the ability to customize the device. Instead you have to learn to work within it's limitations and there are pluses and minuses to both sides of that coin. If you're looking for just a MP3 player, there are a lot of good options for a lot less money. If you want everything else like video, web browsing, gaming, entertainment in general in a pocket size device then you would be hard pressed to find better.

I didn't want the iphone but loved the idea of having access to the apps. As soon as Gen 2 came out, I picked one up. I grabbed the 16 gig and wish I had grabbed the larger as I have about a 20gig music collection. At the time, i figured all songs on there would be a cluster, but they managed it really well and accessing a subset of songs is pretty easy.

So, yeah, love it.

My youngest son has had one since the fall and it's nowhere near full. He's got several hundred songs plus 4-5 movies. I'm always of the opinion that the bigger memory would be better but he seems to be doing fine with the 8. The price difference is a lot also!

I have the 16 gig "touch" and so does my daughter and wife. We all use about 8 to 10 gigs so the "8" would be too small.

It is my computer away from my computer. I have important Word docs in info on it; I have Japanese>English - English>Japanese dictionaries, Kanji dictionaries; Address book with English and Japanese addresses and phone numbers and email addresses; I have my basic music, about 500 picts as well as games.

Invaluable!

I have a 16 sitting here that I think I have used twice in the last year and a half. My blackberry does the same thing and I don't use that much either.

D'oh... So what would you like for it in exchange :cool::cool: It would tide me over till I get my iphone!? :glasses-cool:

The touch is not "bad" - and as a MP3 player it has many good features.
The screen quality is not quite as good as the nokia 770 type pda, but much
better software support.

I would look at your collection, lets say you have 4 gig of songs. I would recommend you pick up the 16 gig model just because once you discover pod casts you will find lots of reasons to fill it up. While other mp3 players can be upgrade with memory cards the ipods do not have that flexibility.

I had thought that the touch would make a good e-book reader but for my use, it turns out not to be well suited for that task for me. All material must go thru the Itunes or other server before being loaded on to you touch. At least for now until I can find book reader software where I can load my own PDF files I am quite happy using the ipod touch as my main mp3 player.

Once you hit the 32 gig touch model you start thinking, maybe a light weight laptop can do more than the touch at the same cost as the hardware.

Hay, it a cool techno toy - and it gets a lot of use from me.

I have a 8gig iphone that I use on Tmobile and I love it. I am looking around for a touch for a friend and found some refurbished units on sale. I found an 8gig for as low as 159 for the 1st gen and 179 for the 2nd gen. IIRC they had the 32 gig for under $300 as well. These were at at the Apple store by the way.
