In another forum, I posted that we had done some travelling this summer. I have to share an incident that happened on one of the trips. We (LOML and children) were visiting a castle in southern Germany. We had to take a winding path from the dock (castle was on an island) to the entrance. The Germans are VERY fond of their trees, so the path was through the woods. Being ever observant, LOML happened to look up and point and ask, "Isn't that one of those burl things you've been talking about lately?" I looked up, and about 30 feet (10 meters, give or take) up the tree was a burl that wrapped completely around the tree!! For those of you who don't know anything about the Germans, they have a Government agent called the Forest Meister (Forest Master), from whom you need permission to trim the trees in your own yard, much less do damage to a public tree! Well, once I saw that burl, I threw any knowledge of German law out the window and was in "damn the torpedo's, full speed ahead" mode. LOML had to physically restrain me from that tree. I don't know what I was going to do, as I didn't even have a pocket knife with me... Does anybody think it odd to pack a chainsaw (or at least a REALLY sharp bow saw) when they go on vacation? If I'm ever back in that part of Germany...

You mean carry around something like this?

I treat mine just like my American Express card..... I never leave home without it![:D]

I smoke and BBQ with mesquite, and in the past never gave it a second thought. But now every time I fire up the smoker I think of all the pen blanks that gave their lives just so I could eat! [:0]

Sounds fair to me! I once went to a graveside funeral service and noticed a big burl on a tree in the cemetary. Boy, do those folks get grumpy when you fire up a chainsaw in a cemetary! I did at least wait until the service was over, I thought it was the proper thing to do . . . [:)]

Might want to consider carrying around one of the survival chain type wood cutters. Just be sure to have all this stuff in your checked luggage as I'm sure the security wouldn't understand your "need to carry" these things around. Maybe offering them a pen would show them what was what! [:D]

Then you will need to pack in the traditional Trinidadian way... put your clothes and tools inside a two suiter, then pack the two suiter inside a 3 suiter... (you'll need something to carry your wood home in and if you pack carefully, it'll all fit in the 3 suiter...)[:D]
