I finally got started on my latest intarsia design. Are there people here that are interested in following it along to pick up tips and suggestions for self improvement? If so, I'd be happy to share tips/techniques in progress for design and construction to help you out. If not..that's just going to make my life much easier!

Jeff, Not sure I am the caliber of participant you are looking for. I have been interested in intarsia for for quite a while but have never done any. would be very interested at an inside peak at the process, techniques etc.

Jeff,
I have been following your work here and on SSWC and CCW. I'd like to do stuff 1/2 as nice as yours..... By ALL means, please do it!!

No problem. Consider it a gift..free online lesson. You can never know too much about any one thing and just because something is based on a particular subject, doesn't mean it can't be applied to other things. Those of you that actually purchased the most recent CCW magazine can see right there in the first paragraph or so that I credit the IAP pen turning techniques for the inspiration of my partially cast intarsia work. It's a two way street!

Where would ya'll like me to post the monster in progress thread? OTWM section?

I am very interested it trying it out. I have been eyeing the Dewalt Scroll saw. Now I just need an excuse like this to get it.

Sounds good to me  It might even inspire me to blow the cobwebs off my new but hardly used scroll saw:biggrin:

This sounds Great Jeff! My first tool was a scroll saw (about 20 years ago) and I made some beginner and intermediate projects years ago, but it all got put aside as time went on. I would be very interested in seeing how a master does it and learn from it. Thanks for offering.

Yes Please do !!! :)
I've been following your work.
Trying the gecko pen project.

Is the Gecko pen project from Woodturning design? I heard I have an article in their next issue, but don't know when that issue comes out. Oh..and Eric, I see you are in Cincinatti. Perhaps I'll see you in November, Artistry in Wood, Vadalia OH, Nov 14/15 I have a double booth.

Jeff, after seeing some of your work, I was wondering it you could do some the intarsia on a pen tube. Is that even a possibility or would the effort and time make it an insane challenge? You do some beautiful work.

I did do that Neil. It was a super complicate little bugger because it had to wrap the tube being curved on the back and at the same time the edges had to be compound cut. I got her done though despite all the challenges. Then I cast it in resin. I didn't have much experience with resin at the time and the resin I used was castin craft. The wood bubbled air into the resin..I pulled it out, spun it and was not happy with the bubbles, so I had to scrap it. It was crazy I tell you. But some day I'll do it again..I have more experience and different resin as well now, so my chances of success are improving.
