I was originally going to be stingy with these ideas. I have done a fair amount of searching and failed to find anything on these thoughts.

Originally, i wanted to keep the ideas to myself out of fear that they would be commercialized. After some thought on the subject, I don't really care. In fact, it would be an honor if one of my feable ideas was "stealable"


Anyway, Here are some casting ideas for you fine IAP casters..


Mimosa tree beans (removed from dry, brown bean pod. Inside there are small, dark brown "beans")

Mimosa tree flowers (not sure if it would work, but it might be a neat idea)

Dried Okra pods (when dry, the Okra pods start to come open at all the edges, creating a neat biohazard looking cross section. Cut both ends off, empty seeds, and cast)

Dried Okra seeds (the Okra seeds are decent sized black balls. They remind me of black pepper corns)

poppy seeds (the kind like on top of an "everything bagel")

I may have some other ideas... I just gotta test em and see if they are workable.

Don't know about those particular beans or flowers, but I've seen tons of different types of beans cast into pens. The rest of your list I have also seen done already. I imagine if someone can get their hands on any particular seed, they've already cast it!
 
How about slices of hot (red or green) peppers? i been thinking about them for awhile, would call them the "Bite Me!" series.
 
I have seen alot of different beans cast as well, Some as old as from the 50's. I have just never seen any mimosa beans and thought it might be cool looking. I haven't seen any pens made from Okra pods, but like Jeff mentioned, There are no new ideas...

Sorry for stealing someone elses ldeas and trying to call them mine. I will just shut up about embedding stuff.
 
I have some unknown flower seeds that look like pumpkins. They vary in size, The largest is about 1/2" in dia. I do not know how they would work but could make some interesting casts for the holiday season. I will post a photo later today

Well, pretty much anything is possible to be casted in resin, some will work better than others but until you try, is no telling...! The worse can happen is you wasted some resin and some time, and if you are like me, you lose a gallon at the time...!:mad::)

Do you realize how this pen turning and blank casting thing change our lives. Each time i go somewhere and look at wood furniture, i see pen blanks. Each time i walk around, everything i see gets evaluated as the chance that it could be cast and turned. Our new mahoganny table, my neighbour flowers, the street trees and what is growing from them, the burning wood that my other neighbour just received, all the little gizmo at the dollar store. Everything, everything just make me see pen blanks. Even stuff that are trown away in the garbage pile get looked at !!

Beware, insanity is watching us.

don't stop voiceing your ideas just don't be suprised if someone has not all ready tried it. Great minds think alike. Just about every Idea I've had has turned out to be old hat when I searched through the photo albums and found similiar pens already made. IMHO thats half the fun of the forum.

Yep, I hear you. The other day my wife had me replace a toilet seat..... naaa, I didn't, I threw it away, honest.

1st of all, there are new ideas, even IF none of these are them. Casting might be one of the hardest things to go "new" with anymore, so perhaps think beyond casting.

2nd of all, nobody accuses you of stealing any ideas. You said you hadn't seen them, I say many of them I have, and that's all that is. You are coming off like you have a great new idea, and that is fine, but then when you are told it isn't new, you act like you are going into depression and start beating up on yourself. Just keep dreaming up things you think are new, and eventually you will get there, and in the meantime be prepared for many of your ideas to have already been done..simple as that, nothing to worry about, just an "oh shucks!" moment is all it is when it's already been done or something very similar has been done.

I started this thread trying to get people's mind going, and to show people that some of us could give a crap less about getting our ideas "ripped off" on a public forum based around a hobby or job.


You are partly right, In that i was looking for at least a little bit of feedback on my ideas. A simple "I think those ideas have been done already" would have been sufficient, but instead, you are the all knowing, benevolent pen creator, and you laid the law down on my thread.

I am not defeated. I just get burnt when someone tells me that my ideas are played out, so like i mentioned, in this topic, I will no longer share.


PS, you said in your first post that all the ideas i posted were old, and in your reply you change that to "some". But thanks for your permission to keep casting!

You are absolutely correct. Jeff, I apologize. I am in mo mental state to be posting on any forums.
