It has almost gotten too hot to turn outside here in our valley, southern Ca., way southern. LOML has fixed that problem, hopefully. Little did I know last week he had ordered a dust collector for my B-Day next week.

Came today from Harbor Freight, made by Central Machinery - 2 HP - 70 gal. We have cleared out the spare bedroom and set up shop, I'm a lucky girl!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday, And what an amazing gift. Not only does it allow you to turn more comfortably, it looks after your health.

Thanks guys and also, thanks for the info Keith, I have bookmarked the page.

We got the DC put together last night. We are waiting for the accessory package, back ordered :( After taking my shower, I went in and turned that sucker (pun intended) on and it almost took my night gown off[:p]:D

Today I will remove all our blanks and pen kits from the office and set up our "new" shop.

Becca,
I have one of those set up in my shop.. actually, in a separate closet built onto the end of my shop.. I make at least one trip a day around the shop to the closit to retreive a piece of sand paper, paper towel, or something... last week I was parting off the top of a threaded box I was working on... had to dismantle half the system before I found that one... inside, you will find the standard bags to be a little course.. follow Dario's advice and get a finer bag.. my little closet has a fine layer of dust over everything... just hoping this year it will choke the wasps that like the nice shelter I built for them.:D

Becca

Those bags on that DC is not only useless but dangerous. It is about equal to vacuuming your house with the bag unattached, all you are doing is blowing dust, and the most dangerous kind, all over the shop.

You need to replace those bags before you start using the DC

There are other brands available, look for a 1 micron bag.

Sorry to ruin your B-D

Ditto the previous post. You want to get a 1-micron bag to replace that burlap sack that comes on that DC. My ex-neighbor did his, and it made a world of difference. I think he got his info by searching the database on a table saw site he belongs to... they had devoted much discussion to this DC. I believe it's http://www.bt3central.com. You might want to poke around over there for some advice.

Also, be aware that, even with a DC and a 1-micron bag, you are still going to be introducing considerable dust into your house A/C system, which could be deposited practically everywhere. Consider upgrading your A/C filter to a HEPA rated filter. Also, if there is a return grille in the room you'll be working in, consider adding a filter there. You will want to get in the habit of keeping the door to that room closed continually, and also putting foam stripping around the door, and a rolled up towel at the bottom of the door. Exhausting the ambient air in your workroom to the outside will help also. Sounds like a royal pain, but unless you have leather lungs and a dusting fetish, you will need to do it.

Another suggestion that helps, on the bottom bag only, insert one of those contractor clean up bags...your dust and debris falls into the bottom and the plastic will hold a lot of the dust in... and it makes it a snap to empty.. just pull the contractor back out and set on the curb for BFI or if you like really, really, really fine bark mulch, you can suffocate your flowers with it.

Re: bottom bags. I use contractor bags from Walmart. They have 40 or 50 gallon contractor bags (2 mil or 3 mil thick) that comes in packs of 10 and really cheap. Look for it at the painting section. You can mount it like you would your bottom bag (I double bag using the standard bag outside). Come cleasning time, all you need to do is take it out, seal it and throw away.

Don't wait until they are full...those things get really HEAVY!!! DAMHIKT ;)

Got the idea from you Dario... works like a charm.

You actually shouldn't let the bag get much over 1/3 to 1/2 full... it effects the effeciency of the collector if the bag is too full. And they will weight a tonne.
