OK, I saw a video of painting the inside of the drilled hole in a blank rather than painting the outside of the tube. That will solve a couple of problems I have had, but I can't remember where the video is and I didn't write down the kind of paint that was used. Can anyone help with this? Seemed like it was model paint (small car models not the long legged ones). Apreciate any assistance.

Thanks guys. I've found that if I paint the tube then thick CA it in the hole I can see gaps and streaks in the glue through the ends of the blank due to the thinness of the transparent material. It sounds like this could resolve that.

I recommend using epoxy when painting inside the blank. will not run the paint like CA does. You can also tint the epoxy to make sure there are no seen voids.

Testors seems to work very well except for the metalic colors (metallics like silver, gold, and copper work fine, it is metallic red or metallic purple that do not work so well). I also use the small cans of colored enamels that any hardware store sells, they are much cheaper than Testors ($1.49 for a 1/4 oz bottle of Testors comes to $760/gallon).

Lately I've been buying the color samples that they sell in Lowe's and Home Depot. They are latex paints and I've always heard they will run and smear with CA. I've been using them for the past few months and haven't had a problem yet.

I agree with painting the inside of the holes instead of the tubes. Painting tubes just leaves a blotchy mess on top of the tube.

Something that works really great is leather dye or wood (dye) not stain. Use a q-tip to apply it inside of your tube. Because drilling roughs up the tube it dyes very well.
