Hello everyone. This will be a serious post. Please don't read this if you will be offended by a request for prayers for someone who has suffered a great tragedy in his life.

Last week I learned that one of the clients who attends my program at the Community Mental Health Center, and is attended to by one of the case managers I supervise, was involved in an extremely bad accident. This man suffers from both Mental Illness and Mild Mental Retardation and was hit by a car walking home sometime between 9-10 pm as best we can piece together. His injuries are so severe that he has been unconscious since the accident. The testing that has been done, leads us to believe that he will not recover. Even if this were not the case, he suffered such severe injuries that he would most likely be far worse than before - potentially life on machines as he currently is.

My prayer for this kind soul, That he be shown the mercy of a graceful departure and that he suffer no pain between now and whenever that time comes. This isn't a choice that we will have any part in, so please also pray that those parties who do have to make these decisions be granted the strength to do what is right and what is in the best interest of this young man.

Thank you.
Linda

Thank you for the opportunity to pray for this individual. There is much to be said for quality of life as opposed to quantity of life. We hold so tightly to life but as a believer I can't help but wonder if when we get to heaven and experience the wonders of it if we will slap our foreheads and say "What was I thinking!" May he depart this life with dignity.

Linda, I am like Ruth from Canada, and I too wish him well on whatever the future holds. I am not offended in the least, and I remember all the prayers and support that came from some of the members here at IAP while my father was going thru his final 2-3 months in this life. I know there area bunch of caring people around. I also wish you well as I partially know some of what you are going thru.

I do not find a request for a prayer to be offensive. I have "studied" many religions on my quest and have found that prayer is universally common to all. I will offer my prayers in my way and I will also pray that you and yours can find the strength to guide you through this sad time.

Matthew 18:19-20 says:"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
Father,
I humbly ask for peace and comfort for this young man who is in need and those who care for him. I lift him up to You, Lord, Your will be done.
In His name We Pray,

Amen

Linda, I hope and pray that everyone involved will get through this. What a shame. My prayers are with him, you and his family. As my mom always said, "Where there is life, there is hope." God bless her soul. Something like this can happen to anyone at anytime. :(

You are an amazing bunch of people. I thank you all for your prayers and support. For those of you who included me in your prayers I thank you doubly - you have guessed at the difficulty this is bringing me. I worked with this young man when I was a case manager and he attended my groups, at at times still find a chance to fill in when one of my staff has to be absent.

Now for an update - and perhaps the reason I chose this particular post to quote....

We are having various staff visit each day so that no one of us carries this load alone. Today when the staff person who had the privilege of a visit got to the hospital it didn't appear that anything had changed. However, the nurse informed us that our client had opened his eyes earlier in the morning and had been able to follow her with his eyes. It didn't last long apparently - but it happened. This brings a whole realm of other issues up . . . many staff have a renewed hope. Unfortunately we haven't given them (and won't due to the confidential nature) the "whole" picture on his injuries. Let me just say there was, what has thus far been referred to, as severe head trauma just to start with. As you recall I indicated this gentleman was already in a lower functioning category.

All I can ask at this point is that we keep praying for this gentle and kind individual that IF he is to wake up he not have to suffer or live life in a vegetative state. Quality vs. quantity is an issue that I personally find extremely important and most of my clients are already slighted on the quality side of things.

Again, thank you all very much!

Linda
