Happy New Year! Five years ago today, the IAP opened it's doors for the first time!

Whew!

Like many good relationships, sometimes it feels like forever, and at other times it is like it was just yesterday! I do know that I've been lucky enough to make many great friends through this site. So I want to thank everybody for being here! Jeff and I opened the doors to this place, but you-all came in and made yourselves at home.

OK, enough of the mushy, sentimental crap! Let's give something away!

Since today is the IAP's Birthday, I think we should sing it a Birthday Song! But not the same old birthday song. I think we need something special! A new birthday song, just for the IAP! So here's the contest – Write us the lyrics for a Special IAP Birthday Song, and post them here on this thread. It can take any form you want, just like poetry. After all, songs are just poetry set to music! You can tell us what tune to sing it to, or leave that up to our imagination. Make it happy or sad, funny or serious. It can be any length, but remember I have a short attention span! I will leave this open until 5:00 pm USA Eastern time. Oh, and comments or criticism about the entries is not encouraged – IT IS REQUIRED!!! ;-)

So, what's the prize? Well, since it's just me running this contest, I was thinking of making a pen and giving it away as a prize! "Hey, if I wanted a pen, I'd make one of my own!!!" Yes, I know we're all penmakers here, so in addition to one of my super-duper hand-made original pens, I will throw in some blanks from my private stash. If I find anything else I want to get rid of, I might throw that in as well! I guess what I'm saying is that if the prize is important to you, then you might want to wait for the Birthday Bash starting one month from now! But this isn't about prizes – it's about bragging rights!

CONTEST: Write a Birthday Song for the IAP, Post it HERE! Win LITTLE Prizes!

Scott.

THE WILD ROVER- PENTURNING ADDICTION STYLE

I've been a penturner for manys a year
I've spent all my money on penturning gear
But now I am skint with no kits in store
And i may never turn a pen anymore

CHORUS:
And its no nay never
No nay never no more
Will these blanks be turning
No never no more

I went to a vendor I used to frequent
And i told PR Princess my money was spent
I asked her for credit she answered me nay
Such a customer as you I can have any day

CHORUS:
And its no nay never
No nay never no more
Will these blanks be turning
No never no more

I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the Princess's eyes opened wide with delight
She says 'I have skins and PR,s of only the best
And the words that you told me were only in jest'

CHORUS:
And its no nay never
No nay never no more
Will these blanks be turning
No never no more

But now my addiction has come to an end
And thanks to this site I've made many a friend
And maybe some day I'll have kits in store
To be able to turn many pens more

CHORUS:
And its no nay never
No nay never no more
Will these blanks be turning
No never no more

I know it doesn't really sound birthday-ish but i thought it was funny

Chuckie! Catchy tune! Now where have I heard that before?

(New Rule - Videos are fine, as long as they don't scare too many people!)

KeithKarl - That sounded Birthdayish to me, kinda! I like it!

To the tune of Auld Lang Syne

original lyrics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne

IAP Lang Syne

Should that old scrapwood be forgot,
And never thrown away?
Should that old scrapwood be forgot,
And never brought to lathe?

CHORUS
From reading IAP, my dear,
I've learned what stuff to save,
I've taken on the turner's pledge
to never throw away.

I know my room's all full of stuff
And surely I'll buy more!
But IAP says it's not yet enough,
I can still close the door.

CHORUS
From reading IAP, my dear,
I've learned what stuff to save,
I've taken on the turner's pledge
to never throw away.

I've two lathes upon my bench
And both are working fine,
But some fine folks there, on IAP,
Say a third one should be mine

CHORUS
From reading IAP, my dear,
I've learned what stuff to save,
I've taken on the turner's pledge
to never throw away.

I know we've wandered in the woods,
Romance 'tween you and me,
But now I've learned, from IAP,
Other uses for that tree.

CHORUS
From reading IAP, my dear,
I've learned what stuff to save,
I've taken on the turner's pledge
to never throw away.

I'll share a tip, my trusty friends,
And share a tip with me,
For that's the purpose, well and true,
For joining IAP…..

A penturner, a penturner, a penturner I be,
Not a bowl turner, nor flat worker you see.
Big pieces of wood I must,
turn into little piles of sawdust,
and create an art that I sell for quite a fee,
All due of course to the help I got from the IAP.

Sometimes just seem to be a poet and don't know it :)

I A P
I A P
It's our birthday
It's our birthday
Curtis is throwing a band saw blade
The penturners don't have enough band aids
Run penturners run
Run penturners run!

sing like 3 blind mice, obviously.

You are only FIVE today???
What more need I say???

Happy Birthday, IAP.

From ONE of the senior citizens on the site.
You'll notice each line has FIVE words, that was for EXTRA credit!!

Ok, a very POOR attempt (songwriting is NOT my forte), to the tune of the old "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" aka "I'd like to teach the world to sing"

If I could teach the world to turn
in perfect harmony
I'd give them all a place to go
to talk most comfortably

The place to go is the I A P
A perfect sort of place
As turners all, we bring along
our own sense of style and grace

All the makings of, a perfect home
so come settle down and stay
And read about things penturning
Until you need to play

Then head on down to your warm ol' shop
And turn yourself a pen
Then come on back and bring a friend
And start it all again!

It's the real deal - always IAP yeah!

Sung to the tune of "The Beverly Hillbillies"

I'll sing you all a story of the I A P
Penturners all became a family
It started all in January 2004
Before long everyone was calling out for MORE

Pens, that is…
Every kind,
Any way.

Well first thing you know word had spread out far and wide
The impact was felt in every countryside
They were signing on from places all over the earth
And everyone was posting for all that they were worth.

Words, that is
Money was
Needed for supplies

Well five years later we all have many friends
We quarrel, fuss, cajole but eventually blend
We share knowledge gained through our experience
And try to help each other from getting very tense.

We TRY that is…
Sometimes we joke
and sarcasm flies

So many Happy Birthdays to the I A P
6000 strong & more to come I do believe
Each day it's there to console & educate
So tell your friends about us and come and celebrate.

Thanks Scott, this was fun!!

The Contest is now Closed!

(I would have been here sooner, but we were out to the Indian casino, supporting their local economy!)

I sure appreciate you all pitching in on this! It was great fun! As much as Chuckie's song got the blood pumping, I'm going to have to give it to td! Way to go Terry! Watch for an E-Mail from me!

And don't forget, the Birthday Bash starts in ONE MONTH!!!

Scott.

yeee haww, so we can have ourselves a shindig now, eh Paw :biggrin:
it is very catchy though isn't it. This meeting penturners are having, they should all rehearse this for the meet :biggrin:
