It must have changed. I read something about AAW is starting something for penturners, but no mention of IAP... Unless they are just going to take over IAP? I sure hope not... I am not a member of AAW.

"Earlier this year Kurt Hertzog, Ed Davidson, Jeff Brown and I had a discussion on possibly forming a chapter for penturners similiar to what Malcolm Tibbetts and the segmenters set up for their group. There will be a program Friday night at the symposium during Special Interest Night with Barry Gross and Kurt Hertzog. If you are interested, we would welcome you to attend.'

This is all I read that called attention to the IAP Forum, but them one would have to know these good folks as being members of the IAP.

Glad to see/read the reference to the IAP though ... even if it was not by name. :)

I read the Jeff Brown reference, but didn't see a direct IAP link...

It's too bad I'm so far from everywhere (which is also why I like it here) - sounds like there's a lot of benefits to being around other turners...

There is a lot of benifits, I am very lucky to be in two AAW clubs, A lot of the turners , are older, some in their 80's and have been turning a long time and I feel lucky to get to learn from them . I feel as though they are passing some things along to me and others, that would otherwise be lost.

Ditto! We formed our local chapter, the Flat Land Woodturners, a little under 2 years ago and have at present around 30 regularly attending members. We are fortunate also in that we have several members who are a lifetime of turning knowledge that are eager to pass it on. And I would say that about half of our members on a regular basis do turn a few pens. In the past it seemed that many pen turners felt a bit slighted by the AAW by having not been accepted ( or neglected) by the turning community as warmly as they thought they should have. Seems today though that the AAW is welcoming pen turning with open arms by opening up their symposiums and providing opportunities for pen turners to participate as pen turners ! Kudos to the AAW!!!!!!! I am also excited about the fact that the MPG is included on the AAW events calendar!!!
