Does anybody live near Dallas or east of it that does casting? I want to learn how to cast my own blanks. I would also like to watch somebody casting some blanks before I try it.

So who wants to teach me something new and hopefully useful?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris. I live in Sachse which is east of Dallas and I to would like to learn how to cast. I have been doing it for several years and it's a lot of fun but I still have my share of headaches. I would be more than happy to share what I know with you and hopefuly we can come up with new ideas together. PM me if your interested and we can work out a time to get together. Good Luck Kenny

Have you considered attending the Central Texas meeting being held in Belton on Saturday?
There will be several demos, one being casting and you will meet many experienced turners.

Wish I could attend. Got family coming into town for "First Monday" weekend. Only time the family wants to stop by for a visit.

Try YouTube, there was a series of casting vids there.

I wish I could watch it that way, but my Internet sucks out where I am at. The video's start and stop so much I forget what the first part said. ( and no it is not dail up, but the price for living in the sticks.)

I'll send you a pm next week. Got family in town this weekend.

I was scheduled to teach a casting class at WoodWorld Tx but no one signed up and Craig finally cancelled it. Maybe we could get a N Tex chapter meeting scheduled and do some casting.
Do a good turn daily!
Don

Thanks Don that sounds good to me. It seems to me there are always more questions that come to mind in a conversation than just reading or watching a vid. I've been casting for several years and have made some nice blanks. The problem is I don't know if I've trashed more than I kept. The only thing I can say to anyone thinking of starting it's almost as much fun as turning. I never saw the class signup at wood world or there would have been two more signed up. Kenny

+1 in regard to being in the North Texas area and interested in seeing a demo/workshop on casting.

I'm down in Waxahachie and have a baby on the way, so time is tight. But I work in Addison, so an evening event could be doable.

Just let me know when. Weekends would be great for me. Fixing to start a new job so not sure when I could do it during the week.

I never heard about the class at Woodworld.

Chris

Missed seeing the signup at Woodworld myself. But if it happens again, I would like to sign up & go.

I'm just a poor boy so the cheaper the better for me but I also wouldn't mind paying a little to resolve some frustration with some of my casting problems. Thanks again for your offer to help if it's an IAP meeting or a class.

Wow! I need a job working every other day. I don't think the wife would like me being home that much so I guess it's best to be happy where I am. Ha Ha.

Free is always good. But I also understand helping to cover supply cost. ;) My caveat is that I would be coming in completely green on the topic I've never tried my own casting. Read some articles and watched some vids - but never tried my own.
