OK, Somebody here said there is no such thing as a stupid question. I have been reading about casting and stabilization for two days and I am absolutely amazed and LOST.
I have been turning pens for years but this is all new to me. The coffee beans and pine cones etc, are so cool I can't stand it.
Is there someplace that I can learn more. How to get started etc.

Don,

Do you have molds yet? Gadget sells some nice ones but I got started very quickly with "mini loaf" silicone baking pans from JoAnn's. A set of 4 was 9.99.. Cheap and easy. Each loaf pan will cast a brick you can band saw into 3 good blanks. About 7oz of product (Polyester Resin or Alumilite) for the brick. Also get a 50% off coupon in most papers for Pearl Ex Powdered Pigment. Do a search for Pearl Ex here and it will pull up more than a few threads that will also list other products. But I must warn you ahead of time... There isn't enough time to cast all the possibilities!!!

Follow the yellow brick road, or the stained glass road or heck.... just design your own road and have fun.

Thanks Al and Terry, Right now I have nothing but the desire. I mean I have lots of pen turning equipment but nothing for casting. Thx for tips on the molds. At least that's a starting point.

Don - if you think you have a stupid question - feel free to email me - I must have made every mistake there is to make with casting. I don't have all the answers - but can share with you some of my good/bad learning experiences.

Good luck

Gordon
