I cast a black PR blank and smashed it with a hammer. Then I cast the pieces in some Aztec gold pearlx.

I like the results, but think it would be better if I smashed the gold, and cast those in carbon black pearlx.

(Not my usual photography. Trying new lighting.)

The black in gold looks very nice, and I imagine
you are right, the gold in black would also.
Well done, I think it looks very professional!

Nice job! I like the colors either way, IMO, black on gold or gold on black look good.

a sheet of glass between the carpet and the pen.

I don't think that is carpet though. It looks to me like a towel. The tufts look to be too small to be carpet. Maybe a door mat, or tub mat maybe, but i still think it's a towel.

really cool pen!

Gives me ideas for PR cutoffs, when i get some! My first gallon of PR should be here later today when the UPS man comes.

Heeheehee.... It's a black terrycloth robe. And the glass is ripple glass.

Thanks for the comments. The reason I was thinking gold chunks in black instead is the translucence of the gold softens the edges of the black. The pearlx carbon black doesn't have that problem so might five more definition to the borders. That's the theory, anyway.

As for small pieces, they disappear. There are lots of small pieces in there. I can see them if I look REALLY close at the pen in person. Big chunks are all you can see.

That looks great. I definitely need to take a hammer to some of my PR experiments that went wrong. I'll get on that once this darn tendonitis eases.

Can you explain how you made the gold perlex? Did you use any coloring or just a "whole mess" of the perlex added to the clear casting material. Also what casting material did you use?

The pearlex is "Aztec Gold". Came that way. Just added powder until I was happy. I made that blank from Castin' Craft resin.
