Hello, well I think I have my truck fixed or for a while anyways. All I did was hit the roll pin that goes down through the middle of the cup the receives the shifter cylinder/balljoint a few times with a punch and it tightened up the cup its self to the rod that passes trough it.This was the problem that it was to sloppy so it would not allow me to move far enough over to get to first only third.Does anyone know how the roll pin holds on to the rod that passes through it?It does not look like it passes through the rod just bottoms out on the rod.Does the rod have a slot machined into it that catches the roll pin?Anyone know what I'm talking about??Thank again everyone,Victor

No idea's on how it's made Victor. Best investment would be a chilton book for that truck model. Those books are worth thousands more than they cost. You might even find a used book on amazon or ebay. In the book they pretty much tear down the entire truck and put it back together.

Far as fixed it for the time being...well all repairs are just for the time being. Heck..my work truck is only 2 yrs old, has 290,000 miles and is already 25% re-built. Over the next 5 yrs it could be more than 100% rebuilt and still needing more! That's why vehicles are a necessity not an investment.

Congratulations on the fix Victor.

I second Jeff's comment about the Chilton book. They are a great investment.

I am a pure Chilton Mechanic. With the guide I will try to fix just about anything on a car. without it I can manage spark plug changes if I am careful.
I have noticed over the years and many vehicles that the guides can run hot and cold as to how well they are written. stick with the books that are just for your vehicle and avoid the ones that are like "Every chevy ever made anywhere at any time" sort of guides. If the Chilton guide is not written well try to find the Haynes Guide. I have had good luck with finding good Haynes guides when the Chiltons where not. As a rule though Chiltons are better and where written as they actualy tore a car apart piece by piece. or at least that is the info I have gotten.

I'm definitly a Chilton kind of guy. makes me feel butch and sexy.
now imagine that being said by Arnold Schwarzenegger
