I finally got a chance to borrow a computer and check in with y'all and bring everyone up to date. I want to thank Gary max for letting everyone knwo We survived. We are still without electricity, and without phone services except for my cell-phone which is hard to charge without electricity! I just received notice that my job finally has electricity so I will be able to get back to work.

We had the eye of the storm pass right over the top of us. LOML and myself are fine, no injuries, and very little damage to our 56 year old house. Shop did have some roof damage, and had some minor flooding on floor, but not extremely bad. I need electricity to get in and start cleaning tools as I am sure there will be some rust areas to deal with with the rain and water.

My neighbor came over at 2:30 am Saturday morning, during the hurricane. They were setting on their couch watching the storm when a 30" diameter pin oak tree came crashing thru their living room just 3 feet from where they were setting. No one was hurt, but we spent a couple of hours calming them down and working with them.

There are a lot of trees down all over the place, many still blocking roads and across the highlines. Most are Pin oak and larger post oak, along with pines and a few cedars. I could probably load up 3 48' trailers with oak logs just within 4 blocks each way from my house!

I did score part of one pecan, some willow, sycamore, Red Gum, Cottonwood, elm, chinese tallow, Osage Orange, Chinaberry, Mimosa, Laurel, Crepe Myrtle, Ash and some Dogwood, all within 5 blocks of my house.

I will be back in touch when I get power and internets services restores. This should be by 10-06-08.

BTW, Monty, I am interested in the local chapter as well.

Thanks for everyones concern and prayers.:)

Rob, Thanks for checking in. I can't imagine what it is like to not have power for that long. I think one night is bad. Sounds like there where some seriously close calls. Prayers where working I guess.

Very cool, I'm happy to see you weathered the storm with only minor damages! Remember, Bostick T-9 for restoring those tools and keeping rust away. Not just a phenomenal product, but made in Michigan. Wood magazine's #1 rated product for tool cleaning and preservation. Never heard of some of those woods, but they sure sound cool. Let me know when you are back in business, I have a couple things for you.

Glad you made it through with only minor damage and inconvenience. I did notice that in spite of it you managed to look for and procure some wood. Do we only have a hobby or is it an obsession?

Rob,
I watched some of the storm on TV here and got a couple of PPS files from some friends in the area... IKE was not a friendly storm... really made me glad I moved north a few years ago. Living in Houston, you probably have a constant rust problem on the tools anyway, so that's something you are used to.

Congrats on the wood haul.. some nice woods you got there. If I remember my chinaberry, I think that has a soft center and is a little brittle. Most I remember about the chinaberry is the berries that we used in our slingshots..(we actually hand another name for the slingshot, but is is now politically incorrect so I'll stick to slingshot) I can attest that chinaberries hurt...

Keep us updated... glad you came through safe and sound.

Well we finally got power restored on Monday, Sept 29 around 8:00 pm. I still do not have phone or internet or TV service, and won't for a while, as Comcast will have to repair a huge number of cables and connections all across Houston.

Just thought I would keep everyone updated on what's happening!
