Hey gang,

I would like to put together a list of the woods that are oily. I'm thinking that the humidity, down here in Florida, effects the way oily woods take a finish.

I have a couple of blanks that I turned but was having trouble getting a good finish on that I will revisit next winter to see if I have better luck.

If everyone will post the names of oily woods they know of, I will put together a list for reference. I'll be happy to share it with anyone interested once I get it together, just send me your email address.

I appreciate the help.

Oily Wood

I live in Fla. and Camphor is everywhere here. I love it and have never had a problem applying a finish to it. I prefer Deft Lacquer but have used others with great results.
Humidity is a problem when spraying the finish but I have found using a hair dryer to remove the moisture helps eliminate any blushing of the finish.

I have the beginnings of a list put together. If anyone knows of any others, please add it here and I'll update the list.

If you'd like a copy, please send me an email at:

and I'll attach a copy of it.
