So I went to the local lumber yard for some wood to make pens. They have a good selection of exotic hardwoods. I saw a NICE piece of paduk about 30" long and a true 1" thick. I know, 1" is a bit excessive but I am going to make some double closed end pens. So as I was giving over the money, he asked me what I was going to do with it. "I'm going to cut it up into pen blanks". I thought he was going to cry!

Yep. Bring him a pen and it will stop the floodgates. There is no way I can cut into pen blanks some boards of various species of wood that are too beautiful. You lose so much character. Pen blanks work well with burls because they are through the entire blank . But we have to do what we do. He would appreciate a pen.

Use a bandsaw and cut them down to 3/4'. Keep the strips for segmenting.
