My local turning club just worked out a group buy from the nice folks at West Penn Hardwoods in Olean NY. The way it worked out is if we as a club would buy $4000.00 worth of turning stock, our price would be $2000.00 and they would pay the shipping
That sounds like a lot but if only 20 people would buy $100.00 each, you have enough for the discount. It was tough to go through the spread sheets and not order way too much..I wanted to stay arround $100.00 but the first time through it came to about $300.00 or $400.00. I kept taking stuff off untill I got it down to about $160.00. The quality of the wood is great..all the pieces are labled..I bought most of them in 1 1/2x1 1/2 sizes, the longest being 4 foot. Most are Rosewoods and other dense tropical exotics. If you are in a club you may want to talk to these folks and see if you can work out a similar deal

Yesterday I spent about an hour going through their site... didn't buy anything yet, but sure had some good looking woods.... I was looking for a piece of Honduras Rosewood in a pepper mill size... couldn't find anything locally at my Woodcraft or my favorite wood store in Seymour.... West Penn had a piece.... but I wanted an excuse to go to Jeffries, so I've changed my plans.
Still plan to back to West Penn and pick up some of their blanks..

If you go there to visit, plan on spending a whole day browsing through their warehouse. And bring more $$$, you will need it!!
