My idea is to get the label off a beer bottle, wrap it around the tube then cast that in clear. However, the 2 kits I have use 7mm tubes. Are those going to be big enough so you can see enough of the label to know what it is? I was also thinking of casting, say, a 1/2" dia blank, gluing the label to that then casting that in more clear. I could also color the smaller blank if I wanted. What says you?

I think you'd be better of putting the label on a piece of maple turned down to about 1/32 or so below the finished diameter then casting over that. I think the diameter of the 7mm tube is way too small.

Ok, thanks. Do I need the tube at all? If I were just to drill the ends of the turned blank and epoxy in the kit pieces, would that be an issue?
I'd use the tube just to give the handle some stability. Plus it's easier to turn if you use bushings. But if you wanted to turn it without the tube & glue in the pieces, I don't see why that wouldn't work.
