I did it again...

Some of you may remember the furor I started when I posted the deer I got with a bow last year. Some of you may also remember that I got two deer opening morning within a few minutes of sunrise. I never would have thought that could happen to me again. Silly me...

I have been putting off the early morning all season for no other reason than I have been busy (new/used boat, craft shows, furniture, etc...) and very lazy. So I decided to go out behind my house this morning, and lo and behold!!!!

I got two deer within minutes of each other not very long after sunrise. Doe and a spike buck. Compound bow once again. The buck was a 45-50yd shot that I missed the first time, but he felt sorry for me and came back to give me a second try, since his girlfriend was inexplicably laying in the middle of a field.

Looks like we'll be having venison for lunch tomorrow, since it's way too hot to let them hang for more than 24 hours, even with a cavity filled with ice.

Good going Dave. I have a nephew that lives in Va, outside of D.C. and doesn't have to buy meat all year. He hunts in the military bases, hes USAF, and fills his freezers.

Here on the family farm the state allows us to harvest 10 deer a year without a license.
We always have a good supply of venison on hand.. steaks, ground, and lots of sausages of different types.
Rarely do we harvest the limit, just enough to keep us happy and well fed.
Harvested 3 fat does with my longbow in October.... no shot longer than 20 yds.. they do love the wander in and out of the cut corn fields...
