I just spent two days giving my website a total makeover and have been sitting at my desk since early this morning and am getting tired.

I just uploaded all the files and it looks like everything is working, at least on my monitor!

I would appreciate it if a few of you could visit the site and play with the buttons and let me know what they experience or their thoughts!

Careful... the paypal buttons are live! :)

Thanks, my site should display below in my signature

Took a quick look , as I'm bushed tonight . But that has a nice presentation and a great display of your goods . I believe your efforts paid off from what I've seen . Will have to take another look tomorrow . Like what I've seen so far !

Nice site George. Very easy to navigate, and changing pages all text appeared to line up. Only a couple of things about the photography. On some, it looks like there is lint on the plate close to the nibs (look at the first 2 statesmans). It is slightly distracting. The other is the reflections on the plate are cropped (at the nibs). You may want to look at framing the photo's so you get the entire reflection in.

well,,,, I don't think it is working.... says I need to pay over $500;
just kidding. I had a nice full shopping cart and was able to modify and adjust and continue shopping. Think I clicked most every button.
Nice looking site. Great job.

I think your site looks great. What software did you use to design it.

I also think your pens are fantastic. I dont know whether to be inspired or discouraged, lol.

Yeah, I made all those truestone pens last week or the week before and spent an hour taking all the photos and by the time it came to inserting them I got a little crop crazy. Actually I'm thinking of getting a new camera, this little puppy is 7 years old and has so many dents in the body I'm surprised it still works at all.

I use a program called Hot Dog Pro. I write everything in html myself so no fancy templates or anything, just whatever comes out of my head.

As far as the pens..... Thanks, I had a lot of good teachers!

Nice clean design George . Looks like it will do just what it's supposed to do with out all the distracting flash and java . HTML Rules !!! Notepad is still the best editor out there .

I loved your sight, buttons worked and everything looked great. Two things, one may be MY computer. The pictures looked a little light, (that's probably my monitor). All the pens are faced the same direction except for the red click Sierra. BTW, gorgeous pens!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice George!!!

BUT, when I clicked on the following buttons I got "Service Unavailable"
'The Emperor', 'The Statesman' and 'The Gentleman'. After waiting a little bit it comes up with "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

Other than those 3 buttons.......I really like the site.

Hi George; For what it's worth to you here's my comments:

1. Consider Georges having an apostrophe to show ownership of the site.
2. The site timed out on me, so I only got to see to the Stateman I think it was.
3. 1st page par. 1 "suite" s/b suit.
4. 1st page par. 2 "seperated" s/b "separated".
5. the word "oriented" doesn't seem to fit, and I can't think of the proper word right now.
6. The Emperor, 2nd par. "encompassed" s/b "enhanced".

I trust these comments will be taken in the constructive manner I hope I have given. That's the best I can do to assist you, since I couldn't get all the way through your site.

Personally, I find your site's background somewhat distracting. I begin looking at the pictures but my eye is drawn away to look at the swirls of the background. It makes me look differnetly at the pictures of pens with high degrees of ornamentation because I'm again pulled away from the ornamentation to look at the swirls.

Please understand this is just my opinion, but I wouldn't think you would want anything causing a customer to not to focus on your products.

George! your site worked great for me down under, l loved when l clicked onto your material used then click on to your pens!your pens come up beautiful and your pens are the bees nees l hope my customers never find this site:wink::good::biggrin:

George

I found a quote

Do not wait; the time will never be "just right". Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

Those Gent twist pens caught my eye....did you use cigar transmissions?

Andrew
I'm not familiar with the Cigar transmission since I've never made a cigar pen. The transmission looks unique to the kit though as it screws onto the lower barrel rather than press fitting in. If the cigar is similar I wouldn't know, perhaps others who are familiar with both kits can answer your question. I like this kit because it has nice flowing lines and the ballpoint kit is identical to the pencil kit and I have sold a few sets.

When I click on the Gold Box Elder Burl Statesman fountain pen add to cart button I get the error message

Wow, this is great! I want to thank everyone for taking their time to help me with their critiques and suggestions, especially the folks who took time to actually proof read my text and show me my spelling and usage errors. I'm a horrible speller and I can't use a spell checker with the program I use so am left to my own God given talents.

As far as those who had trouble with pages not loading or timing out, I am thinking it must have to do with the number of simultaneous visits to the site. According to my site meter, I had more page views within a three hour period this morning than all last week combined and in a few time frames the visit metering bars went off the chart. I'm not overly concerned about that since I'll never receive this amount of traffic on a normal day.

I also learned from this little exercise that the best I can see, my camera lens has a very tiny chip or scratch which is causing small white dots to appear on my photos. Looks like it's time to retire the little camera and buy a nice one!

George,
Your site looks good.. only critique I have is your pages aren't consistent... home page, other turnings page, materials used, about me and contact page all appear to have bold type, while the pages about the pens are not... I would suggest you make the fonts on the imperial page, ball point page, gentlemen, statesman and emperor page the same as the home page... I find the darker font easier to read.

Hi George; For what it's worth to you here's my comments:

4. 1st page par. 2 "seperated" s/b "separated".

Glad to see I'm not the only one who misspells "separate".... I consistently spell the word "seperate".. just seems natural to me to have the second "e" instead of the "a".:biggrin: Thank goodness for spell check... funny thing is through 12 years of elementary/high school I was a consistent "A" speller.

I think I agree with this... makes the page look as if it's underwater?

My spelling question was on the word "arsenol" or "arsenal"? The latter is the way that my spell checker says it is spelled. Other than that everything else looked great.

Thanks, I checked the code and sure enough... I had >"105< and it should have been >"105"<. What a difference half of a quotation mark makes! :)

George, The second time the Salt and Pepper Jr. Statesman is shown the Jr. should be in front of Statesman.

Outstanding looking selection and all your work looks fantastic!

George, I wouldn't have noticed the cropping on the nibs of the statesman pens had it not been mentioned, I like the arrangement very much, it's clean, and very easy to navigate, I only wish my sites looked 1/10th that professional. Oh by the way the pens ain't half bad either,:wink:

Wow, you guys are GOOD!

Actually that particular image was just tossed in as a placeholder, I am going to make a bloody jasper truestone this afternoon and place there.... I hope!

Well, I made a lot of changes and made the text the same on all the page introductions, turned out that some pages had size 3 fonts while others had size 4 fonts. I also switched the background color from a gray crackle to just a light gray background. I think it makes it look better, does anyone agree? Please don't suggest plain white, I am trying to stay away from white.

Thanks again for all the suggestions... FREE Emperor pens for everybody who helped! Well, not really but it sounded good didn't it!

George,

Your target audience probably doesn't mind.

To ME, the type is too small.

The layout and pics are beautiful - excellent work.

I really didn't do that much, just send me the kit!!

It looks great George. There were some little things that I think you should fix so that the quality and attention to detail that you have in your pens is reflected in your attention to detail on your site. After spending weeks on mine, I KNOW how hard these things are to spot. Mom was an teacher so you have to overlook my nitpicking.

There were a couple of places that the spaces between the sentences was not consistent..too many or not enough. For example, the sentence on the home page that ends after "...suit your needs here. Basically I craft...". I thought that there was another one but can not find it now.

Complete sentences are important: "Accepts standard fountain pen reservoir units" and "Available in any Burl, Ebonite...." are not complete sentences. Add a "a" before "premium" in your description on the Imperial page.

Also look at the space between paragraphs. You need one on the last paragraph on your Imperial page.
