So, I sold a bunch of pens week before last and decided I better use the money to buy myself a band saw before I do something foolish with it...like spend it on rent or food or some such thing. I've been wanting a band saw for a while so I went for it! I ordered the Grizzly G0555X. It's on backorder and they don't expect to ship any out until middle of August, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed (while I still have all of them) that it won't be too long.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to adjust or upgrade. I want to get a riser kit for it so I'm probably not going to get a decent blade for it until I do that.

"week after last" - Wouldn't that be this week?

Congrats on the sale and the new bandsaw.

I think that's the band saw my wife and I are looking at buying. Let me know how it works out so I can make the right decision in January!

I went for the SteelCity 14" bandsaw a few months ago, great saw really like it.

Two best things I bought for an 'upgrade' was a Timberwolfe blade,
and a book by Mark Duginske.

His book explains how to properly adjust the guides and many other parts.
In my opinion, having the guides and thrust bearing correctly adjusted will make use of the bandsaw _much_ more enjoyable. DAMHIKT

The GO555 is called the Ultimate 14" bandsaw mainly because there is not a lot of upgrading to do to it. The Riser block and a good blade are all I have ever done to mine. the rip fence is a really good one with a scale on it and all. the guides are already ball bearing. You might start thinking about jigs and such that you can use with it. The only mod i woudl even suggest and that would depend on what sort of dust collection you have, is convert the dust port to a 6". that really is the only thing abotu t he saw that I would like to see different. Until tool makers accept that ducting for dust collection needs to be 6" Not 4" that will not change though.

I am looking to buy a bandsaw as well

I have been comparing the Steel City 14" deluxe band saw against the the Grizzly 14" G0555X extreme with riser blocks and mobile base added on.

Not including shipping Steel City bandsaw is 699.99
12" resaw capability
1 1/2 HP motor
16 x 16 granite table
Has a build in light
Has Tensioning
Has Ball bearing guides and a rip fence

Grizzly is currently priced
575.00 for saw
70 for risers
54 for mobile base.
Total 699.00

12" resaw capability (with Riser)
1 1/2 HP motor
20 1/2 x 14 granite table
Has a build in light
Has Tensioning
Has Ball bearing guides and a rip fence
Also come with a resaw fence

So which saw is better. I think basically you are looking at a granite table vs cast.
Also how is customer service between the two companies?
How does quality compare as well?

Any reviews would be helpful

For your Steel City vs. Grizzly question, consider parts availability. I don't know about Steel City but Grizzly is very good about parts. They are reasonably priced and they ship quickly. I haven't needed many parts but its nice to know they are available.

Cool, I looked at that saw for a while then found a Rikon for sale by a guy who was moving and motivated to sell. The price was just to good to pass up. You'll have to write a review on how you like it.
