I just want to thank everyone here so far with helping me learn the trade of turning pens. So far I have meet and dealt with some great people that have asked nothing in return for their kindness. I have met a man that volunteered to teach me first hand how to turn a pen and I had a great time doing it. All that has been asked in return is to teach another one day, which I will do with pleasure. I will never forget his kindness. Not many like him left in this crazy world.

I have made deals with a few of the members on buying blanks and some kits and have had nothing, but great experience in doing so. You always worry when you give someone your money that you may never see the product. That has not been the case here. The have all been honest and answered any questions I have had (I am wood ignorant).

Just wanted to thank all of you for putting up with what some may think are stupid questions. I will let the other newbies know however, to ask away. If there is one thing I learned in law enforcement being a 1 man unit and a field trainer is the only stupid question in my book is the one you DON'T ask. Since I have started it seems that something has changed in me. It's like I have become relaxed and trouble free when I am turning. Just wanted to thank all of you and the folks who make this site possible. If it wasn't for you all, people like me would be afraid to try. I believe I have started to make friendships that I will cherish for a long time. Okay enough rambling I hear the bed calling my name.

That kind of "rambling" is great. Some good people here. Just pass on what you learn in pen turning to others, kinda like you do in training others in law enforcement.

Well thanks Lee. Wish I was still in law enforcement. Things happen, and in the end the bills need to get paid. That is how I ended up going to work for an oil company. Sure it pays the bills better, but my heart just isn't in it like it use to be. Oh well, the wife is alot happier and the kids are happy and that is what is important to me in life. I will have my time when all else is taken care of.

realy mark, are you sure. ( only joking my friend ) i agree dustin there are a hell of a lot on here who are simply, heroes. i dont think you could wish for a better bunch of guys and gals, and some. very funny. the ammount of times i have fell off the chair laughing is unreal. regards colin.[^]

You are wrong about one thing they didn't ask for anything in return, this is not true, they ask that you are as willing to share and teach someone else the same way they taught you. Soon the CNC will replace us all,LOL. Oh and big a DITTO about everything else you said, Victor

Very well put. All the remarks fit here and are quite deserving. My dad taught me many of the things I know about, and I in turn have tried to share with anyone that has an interest in doing things with wood.

I wouldn't take anything in the world for the knowledge of those here that have 'been there and done that before.' I mean, why do we need to reinvent the wheel?

Something new comes along and there are those amongst us here that will try it out and share their experience with the rest of us and expect nothing in return aside from asking that we share with others as well.

I too want to thank all that post information here. This Forum truly is a great source of information, therefore we all can have much better experiences in our hobby. Jeff and all his helpful moderators are to be complimented! [:D]

Great Post! Thank you

How easy it would be to bottle up new ideas and lessons learned. How easy it would be to keep secret what you have learned works and what doesn't... BUT, that just doesn't happen here. I too have been helped SO MUCH by such wonderful people that have opened themselves up to question after question in helping other fellow pen turners like myself. People are so free with their time and talents, this is what makes IAP such a unique place to share and learn.
