DaveInTexas here. It's my first post. A customer came in last week and saw that I was getting started making pens and told me about this site. I'm sure glad he did. It looks like a great place.

I just got started turning pens and wood a couple of weeks ago. I've made six pens successfully so far. I'm currently using a shopsmith that I got this summer. I also bought a Harbor Freight 12"x 36" wood lathe that I'll be using once I get my shop in the barn finished and get it moved in.

I've already gotten some great info and ideas from browsing through the site. Maybe one of these days I will be able to contribute. For now though, I'll just be gleaning insights and info !

I'll be posting photos of my first Bocote wood pen here in a bit.

Thanks for the welcome everyone and thanks Tom, I just updated it. I'm over in Grapevine, not too far from you in Allen.

Lynn, I agree with your choice of sports teams. I've been a Rangers fan since Tom Vandergriff got Bob Short to move the old Washington Senators here in 1972. These last 3 seasons have been a lot more fun to watch than most of the previous 36 or so :biggrin:

Dave, welcome from Plano. North Texas IAP has a meeting at Woodworld in Dallas this Saturday if you want to meet some of the locals in person. It think we are starting around 10am. Be sure and subscribe to the North Texas Chapter forum to keep up with what we are doing.

If I can make the time, I'll go to the meetings Saturday. Is woodworld in Richrdson by TI ?
About how long do the meetings last? I've got a lot to do this Saturday.
