My wife started to turn first. She is much, much better than I am.

I'm better at making cool blanks and managing material/supply inventory, while she's awesome at 'turning' them into cool pens and keeping on top of shows.

My wife and I turn. It's a bit unsettling how much better she is at it than me, even on her first try with something. Damn details get me every time.

There would not be enough bandages in Wal Mart if my wife started turning. She cuts herself peeling potatoes, I hate to think what would happen with sharp chisels and spinning wood.
Baking cookies is where she belongs!

wow. I think my wife would kill me in my sleep if I posted something like that.

I am with George on this. This is the only time I have where I am in charge and not told I am doing it wrong or getting "helpful criticism" from LOML...My shop is pretty much off limits and when she does wonder in all she says is "what a mess"

My wife and I both have our own mini lathes. She sticks strictly to wine stoppers which she's gotten quite good at. I haven't tried turning anything besides pens at this point and stay pretty much to the basic stock kits.

Lou (DCBluesman), please chime in and ask:

"What's a wife?"

For the record, I do not 'turn' with my wife. But there are other things we 'do' together.

What hospital should I sent the flowers to?

Not to disappoint you, Peter, but my real question is "What's a wife for?"

alimony? as in all my money is now gone:biggrin:

You guys are all so bad.

Mine does not turn, but watches every video..understands the process..but she cut every 2x4 with a handsaw(yep, arm powered) to build our home...hammered hundreds of nails, laid thousands of shingles...a better partner could not be found...she can be anywhere she wishes to be...

Shane and I have 2 complete set-ups. Our marriage is much better not having to share a lathe and work area. Creative minds work better in a environment that is set up the way they like it. I have 4 or 5 different turnings on my bench at a time, I only work on something when I feel like it. Shane on the other hand is start it and don't even think about moving to something different until it is finished. Shane turns only pens right now and I turn lots of other things as well as pens.

LOML and I both turn, have our own lathes, our own MM, our own CA, etc., etc, etc. Love turning together but found it's much easier to get along with our own everything:highfive:

Married since '91 and we still respect each other's space. She only comes in my shop to pull me out for a quick "Honeydo". Used to really love those quickies! We don't open each other's mail. We have a joint bank account and individual ones as well. Same with credit cards. I keep the plants, greenhouse and veggie garden and she keep the books and bills. We even have separate bathrooms. Her's is a mess with cosmetics and mine is near empty except for linaments. This works for us and it is a very happy and loving marriage.

My shop is in the basement as well. The only time LOML comes down stairs is during a storm. We both like the arrangement. I built her a sewing room. However, she is "inspector 12".

my wife will literally not enter my shop. she stops at the door and waves at me....wants NOTHING to do with it!
My wife is afraid to enter my shop, Now that I moved my wood lathe out on the front porch, she has to walk by it and I get the Why don't you clean this mess up, so I took a shop vac put the hose on the blow side and now she has a very eclectic mixture of mulch for her rose bed. and I have a very sore head.
