So, how long can a Delta midi-lathe run before motor burns up?[?]

I don't know but I do know this, at least 11 hour straight. [:I]

I normally have to get at least 30 minutes in the shop in the morning before I leave for PT (Army physical Training) if not I will be cranky all day. Well yesterday I am in the shop at 0445 and power goes out at 0500. :( I stumble through the shop to get my trusty flash light and it is not where it is supposed to be. I go around shutting switches for fans, lights and I thought I had shut the late. I go inside grab my stuff and leave the house. I arrive at about 1845 and hear a faint humming sound coming from the garage...I open the door and THE LATHE IS RUNNING. [:0][:0][:0] I turned it off and put hand on the motor it was hot but not HOT HOT. I say some words I will not print :( and go inside and ask my daughter if when she got up the power was back. She said, yes (she gets up at around 0700) so simple math tells me the lathe ran for about 11 hours (OK at least 10 hours 45 mins). I was a bit concerned but I turned a pen this morning and it is running fine :D

The motors used for lathes are designed to run continuously. So, they won't 'burn up' until something 'wears out' or prevents the motor from turning properly.

Wait till you get your electric bill, then it won't be your lathe that is HOT. Just kidding of course, but around here, the electric rates are going though the roof. It was the first thing I thought of after reading your post.
