how can you tell.....?

I just test stabled some blanks in a plexi-acetone solution.
One was a 1" spalted Redbud. I can't tell if the solution penetrated. I cut it in half lengthwise and compared to a non stabled blank but they both look very similar. The wood started out quite dark so more darkness wouldn't really show up.
I could post a picture but it really wouldn't be helpful.
Is there a test I can do to determine if it penetrated.

Turn a piece of it and watch the shavings for the stabilization to go all the way or be short of complectely tgoing through to the center. Pre drillling with a smaller diameter hole prior to stabilizing might also help.
