We're still debating our honeymoon vacation...

It's down to two ideas: drive South through Montana to Yellowstone, or take a plane to Cuba...

Either way, it'll be about the same price - Cuba might be a bit cheaper after hotels are factored in...

But is it ridiculously hot in the Carribean this time of year?

We went down to the Carribean last year the first week of July. We were in Grand Turk, Half Moon Kay, and Nassau. It wasn't too bad. It's not cool by any means, but not unbearable. My parents just got back from driving through Montana/Yellowstone (and many other places). They said Montana was beautiful and Yellowstone was alright. Kinda what you would expect. Whatever you choose, don't go on a cruise like we did. They blow. Good luck!

I'd do Yellowstone myself. I have never seen prettier country than yellowstone.

Nothing against Cuba, just a fan of yellowstone.

If I had my say, Montana to Yellowstone would be the way to go. I have taken my motorcycle ( at the time )Othough Montana and also drive in the cage there. Great area of the US and Yellowstone should be awesome.

Cuba? Oh, I guess it's a little easier to get there from Canada then it is from the US. I went to St. John last sept. and the temp was perfect, but I imagine it'd be a bit hotter right now. We had a hurricane blow through just 2 days after we left...that's a risky time to be down there!!! Personally I hate the beach, so I'd say go mountains all the way.

Glacier National Park is beautiful! Then take Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway to Cody. Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody is good for a day if you have any interest in him and/or firearms. Yellowstone is very nice, but huge...takes a while to see it all, but you could hit the high points in a few days. Or head east to the Bighorn Mountains, Devils Tower, and the Black Hills / Mt. Rushmore. All very nice, especially on a motorcycle.

I'd vote for Yellowstone but I'm probably bias as I spent my honeymoon (and a fair amount of my childhood) in Yellowstone and the surrounding areas. My Grandparents own a cabin on a reservoir about 30 miles from West Yellowstone MT and I've been to Yellowstone countless times including a trip during the winter on snow machines and a trip through on bikes with my Father and 2 of my brothers about 10 years ago. It NEVER gets old.

If Yellowstone does not make you go WOW you are dead. Take your time and see the beauty. The next thing on your list to see is the Giant Sequoias in Northern California. A lot of pens in one of those babies. Just looking at one of those great trees and thinking about how old they are, will humble and inspire you at the same time. You should see them before Global Warming melts the polar ice caps and puts them under water. But then they would be great driftwood for turning. :)

Drive to Yellowstone, or fly to Cuba? Well so far, I can see that I am in the minority here!! Come on guys this is a honeymoon trip, not a walk in the woods to collect pen blanks!

Granted Yellowstone and the Rockies are beautiful. But it is also touristy. And Andrew you would would spend how long in the car???

Meanwhile Cuba is romantic, exotic. Seductive music and the scent of jasmine drifting in on tropical breezes. Cuba, a country and culture full of history, intrigue and with a unique flavour all of its' own. A complete departure. And definitely the road less traveled.

So in the years to come Andrew, when you and Court are shivering though some cold Canadian winter evening together; when you look back on your honeymoon.....Well I know which one I would prefer to remember!

Andrew! If it were me, and I had those two choices, I'd pick Cuba. Just because I haven't been there. But the other reason is that we live very close to Yellowstone, and are able to visit every year. I can highly recommend Yellowstone, and this is a great year to visit! It has been a wet year, and it should be very green with lots of wildflowers.

Congratulations once again! I am very happy for you!

Scott.

Typical woman response!

You also forgot to include in your romance of Cuba a corrupt dictatorship, extreme poverty, crime, and occasional violence against foreigners. Just run if you see a jineteros offer to take you on tours or "protect" you while in Cuba. Then there is the fact that if injured you can only use the Cira Garcia Hospital located in Havana at which you only pay in cash, no insurance accepted and you will not get quality care. But other than that I'm sure it's quite lovely.

"Honey...remember on our honeymoon how we got the shakedown from a DGSE agent at the airport and then that Jineteros took us for a "tour" and stole all our money at gunpoint?"

Lovely memory huh?

My vote would be for Cuba. But if you're looking at going to the Caribbean anyway why not look at St. Lucia, Cayman Islands, Trinidad or any of the other wonderful locations there? I don't know how much the price difference would be. Then there's always a Caribbean cruise.
So many choices, only one honeymoon.

Well ..bringing wood back through customs might be trickier from Cuba,
so I'd opt for Yellowstone. Besides .. how many blanks can you FIT in
a carry-on bag, anyway?

Been to the Caribbean and I have been to Yellowstone. My vote hands down no matter what time of the year...

YELLOWSTONE!!

Hop on a motorcycle if you really want to see and feel it. One of the natural wonders of the world. And it is one of the world's largest supervolcanoes. I mean a MEGA-volcano. Study it first so when you get there you see it in perspective. It's awesome.

You can't pull into the parking lot and have a full grown bull Elk grazing 20 feet away from you in Havana!!
:wink::wink::wink:

Yellowstone or Glacier all the WAY!

I may be prejudiced....ok, I am since I'm one of the few pure Montana natives left, but it would either be Yellowstone or Glacier or both. I live 20 miles from Glacier and it is soooo beautiful right now. I was up there yesterday, but Yellowstone is top notch also.

Also keep in mind, that the hassles of flying to Cuba/Caribbean, all the security garbage, and the heat and humidity. Naw, go for the gusto and do the most beautiful state in the country.

I say Cuba.

You can't beat a beach vacation for a honeymoon.

Treat yourselves right, and pick a nice all inclusive resort (they are offering really good deals this time of year) to avoid a lot of the trappings that go along with a normal destination. You don't have to worry about a lot of little things (like choosing where to eat and how much you want to spend).

Everyone wants something different out of a honeymoon/vacation. Some people like adventure and and must "go and do" things daily. Others (myself currently) like nothing better than to have their feet up, cocktail in hand, and not a decision to be made beyond deciding if I want a nap before the next meal or not.

If you use those kind of criteria, I think you'll pick the right trip for yourselves.

We're still looking for a reliable car, so we might buy a Honda this week...

If that's the case, we'll start driving a loop through Chicago, Toronto, T Bay, etc OR a drive through Montana, hit yellowstone, and come back through Banff and Calgary on Monday...

The Cuba trip sounds fantastic, so we're putting that on the must-do list as well, and hopefully fit it in in December during Christmas break...I'm going to the travel agent as well tomorrow, so we'll see what she can do for a deal...we'll see which one wins out!

At least, that's the plan...we need to decide expediously, however, else it'll be too late soon! Looking at buying a new car tomorrow, i hope! Fingers crossed!!

Well good luck! And remember, it's not so much the destination, as the journey, and who your with!

There are some amazing "cabins" you can rent in the Smoky Mountains. We just reserved a 6 bedroom three story cabin with a view and private indoor swimming pool in the lower level for a week in August. Check out www.yourcabin.com. Just another option. Congratulations, by the way.

Chicago?????

Andrew, it this is the route you choose, PM Ed or myself when the time gets closer. We would love to arrange to meet you two on the way through!

Just a thought, but my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Aruba. It is a desert island, outside of the hurricane belt. Super friendly people, very affordable, and some of the nicest beaches in the world.

My son was in Cuba last year and wouldn't go back. Food, room and service at the resort they were at was poor. He had his laptop with him to process pictures of the wedding they were going for. Nearly lost that when at customs and when they saw the US immigration stamp in his Canadian passport they freaked. The so called 1/2 hour from the airport really turned out to be a 4 hour bus ride with no stops in between. Think about that if you have a beer or two before boarding the bus. Maybe they meant 1/2 hour by air.

I've got other friends that went nearly every year because it was cheap. If you decide on Cuba research the resort you pick very carefully before putting any money down.

We did a Panama cruise a couple years ago with MSC cruise lines and loved it. If you want the same food you eat at home a cruise is not for you. We had a great time supper time every night we would look for something on the menu that we had never had before. If you didn't like it the waiter would take it away and bring you another choice. I never had that problem.

Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton in Nova Scotia are also nice places to go. You've got beach, mountains scenery and for the most part friendly people.

If you are on the 401 between London and Windsor I am only about 20 minutes off the 401 half way between the two.
