My Home brew sealer

As been a long time I want to write this and hope it will help some of you, for some people is not always possible to buy the product depending where you live to seal your green logs, so this will help you to do your own sealer in a cheap way.

You will need :

A large tin or bucket or even an hold mop bucket ( like I use just cut the top off),
Styro foam box ( from the green grocer ) or peanut packaging ( you will need a lots ),
Spatula or an old wide band saw blade to spread the sealer on the log,
Petrol or paint thinner what ever is the cheapest,

Pour 1 or 2 quarter of petrol ( or more depending the quantity of wood you have to seal ) into the bucket, break the foam into pieces and drop them in the bucket the foam will melt down instantly add some more foam until it turn as a think paste

stir 3 or 4 time then let sit over nite it will become clear and very running,

Here I’m sealing a Pink pepper corn log ( few of them:D ), the white on the edge is the wood sap

You can now seal your logs one side at the time, keeping your logs upright, the seal will skin in about 1 hour but not dry it will be semi dry the next morning,

You will notice some bubbles ( large and small this is normal it’s a reaction of the petrol base sealer and the wood moisture just flattened them down with your hand

turn the logs the other side and do the same process, the seal will be dry rock hard in few days and will turn like melted plastic your logs will not crack, in any case you shouldn’t take the bark of the log ( unless you know that you got a lots of grubs under it, but I think they don’t like petrol base product and I didn’t have any problem with this as yet ).

This seal can't not be kept and as to be used with in 48 hours other wise you seal your bucket:D, another good thing a little of styro foam melt in petrol make a very good sandy sealer, this one can be kept in a jar.

Hope this can help.

Another good thing a little of styro foam melt in paint thinner ( not petrol because of the smell ) make a very good sandy sealer, this one can be kept in a jar
