There's this massive Asian grocery store here in Houston that's close to another massive Asian grocery store and they are always in a price war, so I took advantage of it this weekend.
They are selling whole beef tenderloins for $3.99 a pound, a sale item that's been around since before Christmas last year. They also have whole ribeyes (bone out) for the same price right now, and it's usually just $4.99 a pound!
A five pound tenderloin was only fifteen bucks!
So, I salted and peppered the tenderloin, wrapped it up in bacon and tied it good and tight so it would cook evenly. I tossed it on the grill, slow smoking it with hickory chips for 2.5 hours at 225 degrees which brought the internal temp to 127... nice and rare but not bloody. The pit has a dropped fire box so there was no direct heat on the meat.
Here's a pic of it on the grill. It tasted like the best melt-in-your-mouth steak you've ever eaten, and get this... only one little old lady showed up to our house to eat it so I have 4 pounds of it left over for ME to eat on all week!
Anyway, I just had to share this with you guys because you'll appreciate it and I have no one else to share this with at the moment.
