Hey Everyone,

I'm posting this in here because it doesn't relate to turning but instead wood carving. A friend of mine is a wood carver. I suggested she try carving holly. I had just started turning birdhouse ornaments with a piece of holly and thought it had great characteristic for a carver. Anyway, the problem I am having, now that I have suggested it, is finding a source of holly that is larger than 2" x 2". Can you get holly in bigger sizes and if so where? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe they have boards at 2" thick by various sizes available.
 
I've got some blocks that are 8x11x5. There is some staining around the edges, but there is still a lot of really nice wood in the blocks. These are from a 16" holly I cut down a year or so ago. PM me if you need more info.

Sorry Travis. I didn't mean to get your hopes up there. If it was my dad posting that would be a different story. He's the big car fanatic in my family. Not saying that I'm not, cars is just a hobby I unfortunately can't afford.[:(]
