A friend of mine gave me a piece of Cholla to make a cane out of for her dad. She simply wants me to add a handle of some sort. There was a weird "Knot" type thing at the top of the piece of dried cactus. After much thought, I decided to cut the knob off, cast it in PR, and re attach it with glue. I poured a little bit of colored PR in the bottom of the mold, and set the "wood". After that cured for an hour or so, I added clear resin to fill the mold. I used no pressure, and post baked two hours after mixing the catalyst.
When i removed the blank from the oven, I noticed a tiny "vortex" in the very center, going all the way down to the "wood". I have never seen anything quite like it... I am going to try to use it, considering Oklahoma is smack in "Tornado Alley", it might add a cool conversation point. Just thuoght it was kinda weird and wanted to share. I might try to photo it, but i don't think my camera is good enough.
