OK. I'm getting tired of the slow dial up I have. For whatever reason, I can't get DSL or Highspeed cable and I can't see paying big bucks for satellite. I just spotted this wireless modem http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2849
from Verizon. Monthly access is $59.99 (plus all the little extra fees they kick in). Anybody have any experience with kind of setup?
FWIW, I have an ancient PC,333MHz and as much memory as possible.

I couldn't get the information from the Verizon site. If I understand what you are considering, I believe it is also called a 'line of sight' connection. Meaning, you would have to be located in an area where a special antenna would point directly at the sending tower for your ISP source. Not difficult in most metropolitan areas. Kip Komando recently had an article on this subject, you can check it out there.

No DSL or Cable? Did you heck with Verizon about data availability at your location? This workes over cell towers, so if you can't get DSL and Cable, there is a strong chance you're outside the range of decent data over this.

Make sure you use their coverage map and select "broadband and vcast" to see if this will work for you or not.

And FYI - Monthly satellite can be about that price too.

Though I have no experience with the Verizon broadband, I have friends in more densely populated areas who have very good things to say about it.

Being in a rural area with no plans for dsl to our home in the next 10-12 years, this is our option that is much better than any of the satellite providers. Since we are at the limits of the standard dish, a larger, paraflector was installed on our roof which is pointed to the master antenna on a mountaintop 8 miles away. We are provisioned for 512K/256K and usually test around 2500K/1300K which is much faster than the Verizon DSL in town. Installation was less than a satellite install and monthly cost are comparable to the other wireless options but speed is much faster when we talk to neighbors who chose to install the Hughsnet, Directway or SkyBlue systems. For those who live in town, the dish is not always necessary.

This paraflector is about 20" tall x 30" wide. Our monthly fee is $59

This link is just for some background info on the system our provider uses.... http://www.intermaxnetworks.com.

Google.... wireless ISP YourCity YourState for a listing of similar providers for your area.

I believe you are talking about the wireless internet card. I have one and it is great! It works everywhere I go. I travel alot and it has worked in every place I've been. I recommend the USB card over the other one. You can use it on ANY computer where as the other one that is inserted is computer specific.
Hope that helps
