hiding the seem?

so when you cast somethng like a snake skin, fabric or paper image how do you hide the seem? i have a few ideas but am afraid of an unsightly seem.

1. Snake skin-I have seen people use pinken shears (jagged tooth sciorrs) to cut the skin so the scales line up.
2. Most people paint the tubes the color of the background of the image. 3. Use a sharpie for dark colored images along the edge.
