Just getting into the hobby. I picked up a Jet 1221vs and have been having fun turning some pens (mostly slim lines) and keychains. Time to branch out into different pen kits. Here's my most recent keychain, first time turning resin.

Welcome Jeff! You will find a lot of good assistance here. Living where you do, there are also a couple good AAW local chapters in VA that might help with turning in general, but there is a very good pen turning focused event in Manassas, VA coming up in March. Check it out here https://midatlanticexpo.org/

I've been to MATE twice and I'm secretary/web for Capital Area Woodturners. Thanks for the tips though!

It's really good. First year (2023) for me I was there as an attendee. Last year we had a both for CAW (Capital Area Woodturners) and I spent most of my time there. Thinking I'll early bird register this time.
I'm going to early bird and vip. I got my room the day i saw the date for it, but I need a handicap room so I wasn't taking chances.

I am attending for my first time this coming year and am looking forward to it. Chicago was a bit too far for me to attend the other big penturning event, but MATE is within driving distance, so going!
