Watcha, greetings from the UK. Be careful, pen turning can become addictive! I love it and I would like to think I get better each time I make a pen. This is a good org, with many supportive members. Welcome and enjoy!

Welcome from Nevada Camille.
I love the idea of using penmaking as a shop project. A basic pen is pretty easy to do, and the student goes away with a unique item that they can use for a long time, and impress their friends with. It also doesn't require a fully outfitted shop to do at home (unlike making furniture or other large items). It is also something that can be completed in just a few class sessions.

Explore the forums here, and you will find everything from newbies (I've only been doing this for a few months now) to others that have been doing this for 20 years or more. There are lots of great ideas that you can present to your students that add a lot to a project, yet are pretty simple to do.
