Hi everyone.

I came across this website while looking for ideas about a pressure pot and saw the great instructions section and thought I would join.

I've been making some pens for a while now but if I make more than 2-3 a month than its an awesome month, I just rarely get time. But any time I feel bored I run to the shed and think up something to do.

A question if I may, when casting pens with paper (with printed pictures) glued to the tubes, how do you seal the paper from going see-through? Or does the PR not affect the paper. I really want to make some pens for my brothers with pictures of their kids in them. Do you use some special paper/ink/sealant or something?

Also an idea I would like to try in the future is to make a goblet some different coloured PR pieces, like a staved wood goblet, like these, Woodturning Wood Goblets , thought it might be fun. Might wait until my dad gets his mill though so I can ensure every piece is perfect.

Anyway, some samples of my previous work. And my new pot too, haven't tested it yet.

Welcome. I saw your fountain pens it looks like a white mother of pearl body. I have been looking forever trying to find that material. Your pens look fantastic and if you wouldnt mind I would like to know where I could get the White material that you used. My daughter is getting married and she wanted me to do a guest set for her wedding album. Thank you and Much appreciated . Chuck

welcome.
when I do photos on the pen, I print them on 20lb paper, and cover them with modge podge. Then build up a finish with CA. Haven't tried casting one with a photo.

Chase1957 it is this blank, Pen Making :: Pen Blanks :: Australian Made Pen Blanks :: Pearl Opal - Poly Resin Pen Blank - Pen Kits, Pen blanks, Clock Kits and wood turning accessories.

My photos don't do any real justice. In sunlight these blanks just reflect a beautiful finish. Many colours, many angles. And yes they make a beautiful wedding set.

Markgum, yes I saw a youtube video from PennState about doing that (except they used stamps), looks good. I might try some Mod Podge and PR and see how it goes. If no go, than Mod Podge and CA it is.
