I have been reading and looking at some of the modifications to the HF paint pots. My question is why can't it be used as it comes out of the box? Looks like it has the guage, shutoff etc needed for pressure use already? What am I missing? Thanks

The safety valve and regulator are junk and you would still have to plug the air outlet and fluid outlet and remove the fluid tube.

It's kinda hard to put much in the pot with the tube sticking all the way down the length of the pot - other than paint.

If you left the stem in place and did not plug the hole - your resin may come out the tube if it's stuck in the mold that is holding the resin or the air would simply escape.

You also need to add the air valve (inlet), provide a way to prevent back flow (cutoff valve), and a way to prevent over pressurizing the pot (pressure relief valve).

I simply removed the stem & plugged the hole. Took the provided valve and added a PRV and an inlet valve. Took me a few tries to get the combination right but keeping it simple keeps the costs low and less potential points of failure.

Of course I only use mine for pressurization and not a vacuum. I use a vacuum vessel for pulling vacuums.

Good luck.

I was a little upset when I found out that I had to get all McGyver on this thing but, I went for it. the simplest method that I found, was the one I used. and it was perfect(after I found all the leaks) I kept the pressure relief that came with it as well as the regulater. I had to tweak the relief a bit, but so far...no problems. The modifications cost me like 5 bucks.
