I was wondering if any of you use the HF 2.5 cfm vacuum pump (or any other of the HF pumps)? It is on sale and the 25% coupon would put it at about $60. I need one that will pull at least 25-26 in/hg on a HF paint tank setup, but don't want to spend the money if it is worthless.

Thanks

go to harborfreightusa.com. sign up there and you get coupons every week..........kinda nice.
make sure you go the usa site.....harborfreight.com just doesn't get you anything

I have one of the venturi style pumps. My compressor is not quite large enough, I have to let the pressure build up, run the pump, let the pressure build, etc. I don't want to burn up my compressor motor.

Yes, I have one of the HF 2.5 cfm Vacuum Pumps. It works fine. You will need to find a air conditioner supply that will sell you replacement pump oil as HF only supplies what comes in the box.

Jeremy .. I bought one last year and it works just fine.

I wouldn't pull a vacuum with anything solvent based though.. things like
acetone will flash off at room temp under vacuum.. and those fumes can
attack any plastic/rubber parts inside the pump

+1 on the venturi style pump... I am currently using a GAST pump I got through eBay for cheap, and it's already losing it's effectiveness due to the acetone fumes. The Venturi is a solid Alu block, so it wouldn't be affected.

You bought the Gast pump used on ebay. How do you know it is the acetone that is effecting it and not general wear?

I have the HF 2.5 pump. It works very well, just don't use it with any Acetone or ketone in it. I did and it seized up after 3 uses. Here's a link for oil that Buzz7164 gave me, or just do an Ebay search. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Robi...Z150395883464QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools

My chamber is approx. 20" high by 6" dia. and it pulls down to 29 according to my gage. For the money, it's worth it, Gotta love those 25% coupons  With what you'll save, I advise that you buy the extended warrentee plan. I think it's about $10. It covers you for 2 years after the manufacturer's warrentee.

I picked up the pump on New Years Day. $60 for the pump, $10 for the 2 year warranty. Got the fittings yeaterday. I hooked it up to my pot and it pulled it down to about 28.5 in in about half the time it took the venturi pump to pull 25 in. Much quieter as well.

You can find the oil at most heating A/C supply companies, the vacuum pump is used to remove freon from A/C units, heating and cooling repair companies may also be able to tell you where thy buy there oil.
