Hey guys been lurking about for a few weeks debating on if this was something wanted to get into my turning exp so far is inheriting a lathe watching a 5min youtube video on how to use it, then went and grabed some fresh logs from the firewood pile, stuck them on there and spent a few hours violating those poor logs, but I really enjoyed it so other day went and dipped into my Honey Dont Know Money and ordered up what i think are the basics to get me going. When the funds there replenish a little bit will probably turn to some of you vendors here to help me out So dont be surpised if I ask some questions that might make you scratch your head a little bit.

Welcome from Mississippi.
What I soon discovered is, it makes little difference how much (or little) your lathe costs. You will find that it is a small part of what you will end up spending. It is incredible how many neat gadgets, tools, pen kits, blanks, finishes, etc, ad infinitum, you can find that you must have.
Anybody got a planer they don't need? Got to make boxes for the pens, you know?

Welcome from Rockton, ILLinois, what part of ILL are you from?

Welcome!
I figured this for an inexpensive hobby. Then I ordered three of that kit and two of that kit and four or five neat looking blanks and some sandpaper and ...
A whole bunch of $5 things adds up to real money. My wife don't mind, last year I made a bunch of camo bullet pens for her brothers for Christmas. They loved them and she was as proud as I was. She takes pens to school and her fellow teachers are always snagging them.
Dig in and make a bunch of sawdust and plastic shavings.
Just don't forget to invest in a good respirator first!

Welcome Kinger and don't hesitate to ask any questions no matter how dumb you may think they are. We all started in the same place and I'm sure you'll find people here more than willing to share what they've learned.

Welcome from Philly! There are lots of great information on this site. I've learned far more from this site than I did when I took an actual pen turning course.
