This started out as a maple burl blank about 1-1/8" square. I turned it round and liked it so much I just did not want to reduce the bulk of it to shavings.
So, I got this crazy idea to somehow cut the center out of it for pen blanks and use the outer shell for a box. In the process I also added a thin piece of mahogany for accent.
Anyway, the thin burl has warped badly and I'd really like to straighten it for use as a pen case. I tried some CA on the outside just to see if it would change the warp at all...it didn't. I also spread some Wood Turner's Finish on the inside but so far it also has not moved it. I was thinking of steam but to do that I'd need to make some fixtures to over correct the bends and hold it there while it dries.
Anyone have any ideas?
This will probably look nice and be a unique piece if I can get it finished correctly.
Thanks all.
