This blank was sent to me by someone years ago as part of a giveaway. I recently made a pen from it. Can someone please help me identify which wood this is?

Thank you.

That's what I thought it was. But the description and examples don't match the blank I have. The grain is totally different. Thanks for trying though.

I am going to differ with you but it is your blank. If you look at the words on the blank that to me is exactly what they say King of wood. The grain pattern is exactly like that in that the red streak. Here are some experiments you can do to see if this be the case. Other than that I have no idea. Maybe show us the finished pen as well. It is always so so so difficult to give names of woods from such small samples. It happens all the time here. There are thousands of species of wood and no one wood data base carries all varieties. Good luck.

The most amazing feature of Kuya Raja is that it is tranlucent, shining a flashlight through the wood chips, the light will penetrate the wood chips. When you see the wood is tranlucent, most people will be very confused and fascinated, because everyone knows wood is opaque. The second experiment is reduce the size of the wood chips, wood chips will submerge into the water like a stone. The Kayu Raya is not floating at all. The third experiment is to put the sawdust of KayuRaya , gently rub with your fingers on the arm, to those the wooden sawdust will disappear on your arm.

You got my answer. Sorry can not help any further. Good luck. That is not tulip wood. I work with tulip wood many times and it is alot lighter than the pen you shown.
