I purchased some boards two years ago and just refound them. The name of this wood escapes me but it was one with which I was not familiar. If I hear it I'll recognize it. I'll even send the correct identifying person a couple of blanks from it. Thanks for all of the help on all of the forums.

I was thinking it looked like some wenge that I have here -- dark lines in a brown matrix. tends to be a bit stringy.

hard to tell in that pic, but it sorta (kinda) almost looks like
honduran rosewood from here. (except I'd expect to see little red
and yellow rays in it, too.)

I dunno

I have another board that is labeled Honduran rosewood that I just found. I don't remember this one being HR also, but upon close comparison I think it is. The cut ends are reddish to purplish and the there is some yellow in it along with the dark streaks. Maybe I cut the board in half at one time and that is why one piece is labeled and one is not.

It's amazing what is found when a garage gets cleaned. I found two bloodwood boards, a waterfall bubinga board and a monterillo board.

Anyway, send me your address and I'll send you two or three blanks if you would like to have them.

Thanks to all who replied. I think the mystery may be solved.

It does look like HR.

Long shot but it also looks like some cocobolo I saw before. Cut it and the smell and fresh color may help you properly ID it.
