I've always loved working with wood ever since I had wood shop way back in school. Back in 2010 I started gathering some tools and making wood muskie lures and really enjoy catching fish on my own creations and I really love when I get sent photos of guys with fish they caught on my lures.
Jump to 2016... I wanted to try something new and make some round body lures so I picked up a small lathe from the local Harbor Freight about a month ago. I made a few lures and started watching youtube video's on turning and figured why stop with lures. I stripped the guts out of an old busted lamp and turned a wood lamp from a log meant for my neighbours fire place. It works well on my night stand. Then ordered a kit and made my first pen the other night. I find myself already needing a larger lathe.
My first pen. Its not perfect but it will do for my desk at work. Now my wife wants one along with several coworkers. Good thing I have more pen kits.
