I joined the IAP in January to do some research while trying to decide whether I wanted to begin penturning. I apologize for procrastinating in making this post.

I can't express how impressed I am with the generosity and helpfulness of the membership here. This forum is a wealth of information! Thank you to all who contribute.

I did decide to start turning and yes, I'm addicted. Again, a special Thank You for sharing your skills with us beginners!

Welcome Al. Good to have you here. I'm not from the deep south but I am from the Mid-South, just transplanted for a while in Japan.

Included below is a link to a PDF file that goes over many aspects of pen turning from finish - to pens - to tools - to methods etc. It is not in detail but a good overview for pen turning. Hope it helps.

Also included below is a link to a new post that gives some information that people wished they had known earlier in pen turning. Some good information by those that make pens.

Welcome aboard! I see Louisiana on your tag, so the important question would be "How's your roux?" we have a few folks here who consider food a close second to turning ....

Welcome to the Forum, AL! Glad to have you on board.

I kinda agree with GoodTurns above about the turning, but I kind of have to put a juicy T-Bone up in front of turning stuff. Maybe a few shaving of mesquite for flavor, but then it's right back to the shop!

Cav - Sorry, but I'm a transplanted Texan.

Jon - I can't make a roux. See above; I get mine in a jar.

Fred - I used to live in Lawrenceville, my office was in Tucker. I miss GA but I sure don't miss that commute.

Welcome from sunny California!

This site is the place to go to turn over

and over . . .

Welcome from a well-bred raised former New Orleanian! First you make a roux; and then you start to mix... These people are great: good luck:giggle:
