Hi everyone. My name is Rick and after watching a pen turning demo at my local Rockler Woodworking store I decided to try turning a few pens for my UPS customers as presents for Christmas. This is fun and I think I'm hooked. I looked for forums on pen turning and this one caught my eye so here I am.

I also saw a video of a gentleman using feathers in his blank and being a fly fisherman I was intrigued at the notion I could turn a pen and use feathers for a design I bought some resin yesterday and I'm jumping in feet first. This is going to be fun!

Welcome Rick, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.
Ed4copies just posted 8 videos showing pen turning from start to finish. Look them up and they may be of some help for you.
